While there are yellowish tinged diamonds at the lower end of the traditional D-to-Z range, fancy colored yellows have hues that are considerably more intense, with the most vivid described as “canary” yellow. The color is the result of the presence in the diamond molecule of nitrogen atoms, with the intensity of the yellow color depending entirely on the amount of nitrogen entrapped. They frequently are cut in fancy shapes, with the radiant cut favored because it intensifies the appearance of color when viewed face up.
